Wesbrook Community Centre
Strategically located in the vibrant heart of Wesbrook Village on the UBC Vancouver campus, the Wesbrook Community Centre is staffed by a team of experienced professionals who are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for community engagement and recreation. Spanning 2,800 square feet and completed in 2015, this two-storey facility is a cornerstone of the newly developed Wesbrook Village neighbourhood.
The centre boasts a variety of amenities tailored to enrich the local community's social and cultural life. Facilities include:
- A state-of-the-art gymnasium
- Versatile multipurpose rooms
- A dedicated teen centre
- An inviting dance studio
- A child-minding centre
- A welcoming café
Central to the building's design is an atrium, which not only enhances the structure's aesthetic but also effectively organizes the space—the gymnasium, fitness, and teen centres are to the north, and the meeting rooms and multipurpose spaces are to the south.
Adjacent to the main entrance, the dance studio sits elegantly above the café, offering a picturesque view. The building's exterior harmoniously blends with the surrounding environment, featuring a base of split-face granite and accent panels of western red cedar to mirror the rustic charm of nearby Pacific Spirit Park. The upper floors are clad in reflective aluminum panels, giving the structure a light, airy feel.
In line with the university's commitment to sustainability, the Wesbrook Community Centre is designed to achieve an energy usage of only 160 kW/hr/m² per year, aspiring to LEED Gold standards. This is possible through a highly insulated building envelope, controlled window-to-wall ratio, strategies for daylight harvesting, passive ventilation, and advanced heating and cooling recovery systems. The centre provides a venue for leisure and fitness. It fosters small-scale gatherings and community celebrations, making it a hub of activity and interaction in UBC's dynamic landscape.
