Is your home feeling a little bare after the holidays?  Once the decorations come down and the lights are packed away, your home may feel a little less festive.  Never fear: there are many great winter ideas to get your home all decked out for the magical winter season.  Here are some great ideas to keep your home in step with the winter season.

Centerpieces

There may be no cozier and comfier gathering spot during the winter months than in front of a fireplace.  If you have an electric fireplace, or are lucky enough to have the real deal, try rearranging your furniture to make it the centerpiece of the room.  For that special touch, try adding some extra pillows and blankets to the room.  You will be surprised how quickly this room will become the place to spend many happy and warm hours this winter.

If you do not have a fireplace or feel that the space is not quite adequate enough to make it the go-to winter room, you can quickly transform your living room into a comfy winter niche.  Try adding extra blankets that have a bold pattern or warm colours.  Wool blankets provide that extra warmth factor and are synonymous with winter.  You can also add a winter theme such as snowflake patterned quilts or pillows.  Little additions like these can really bring that winter wonderland look to your living room.

Rustic Look

Adding some rustic winter items to your home will help you bring that winter theme to life.  Think about using a vintage old sled and an old pair of ice skates to bring your vision to fruition.  You can use a display such as this either outside your front door or in your hallway to welcome guests and family alike to your winter wonderland.

Pine cones and boughs from evergreens can also help set the stage for your home’s winter look.  Pair these with some bright red berries or some plain sticks to recreate a winter forest look inside the room of your choice.

Natural Light

It is no secret that the days get shorter during the winter months.  Instead of burning up your electricity, try to utilize all of the natural light that you can.  Think about placing mirrors near natural light sources such as windows to not only open up your room but to also help brighten your home.

The Neighbourhood

Sometimes, just a quick walk through the neighbourhood can help spark some new winter ideas.  If you are stuck, head out one bright winter day and take a stroll through your neighbourhood.  There are many great homes throughout the lower mainland, and do especially check out the homes in UBC that offer unique winter ideas.  Make sure to take advantage of your location, and enjoy some fresh winter air at the same time.
